Renaissance

French Near future Noir Sci Fi.

Paris 2050.
Hard bitten supercop is called in to investigate the kidnapping of a corporate scientist. Something she was researching has been getting people killed. Each step of the investigation drags the protagonists deeper into a world of sinister corporate intrigue and a secret worth dying for.

The visuals on this were stunning. In an attempt to combat the uncanny valley effect the whole film is presented in saturated black and while. Stylized with a Frank Miller comic book look, there seemed to be a mix of real, hand drawn and computer generated footage. But, the lo-fi look allowed them to blend seamlessly.

The imagination of the future Paris was fresh showing an incremental change in the urban landscape and an innocuous pervasive use of technology. The characters face's were finely chiseled shadow casting machines which allowed an almost unending exercise in positive and negative space. All together the effect was very stylish; but what else would you expect from the french, eh?
